What I’ve Been Up To

Another work week has begun and I’m sure it’s going to be jam packed full. So before I begin I wanted to post, since I didn’t get to post last week. It wouldn’t have done me any good because everything I have touched has turned out not so good. Have you ever had those weeks? I have way too many of them.

The bolster pillow covering that I was working on was one example. The cover I originally started working on just didn’t do anything for me so I abandoned it and started another one. WELL….that one turned out too big too, but I thought what the heck, I’ll try to make it work. Yea, ok. A word to the wise….don’t ever try to make something too big fit something smaller in size. It just doesn’t work.  I put the zipper on it, which was no easy feat for me, as I am not a sewer (so-er). I then stitched up both sides and they look horrible. Thus no pictures because I was so unhappy with the whole mess. Needless to say it’s laying to the side staring at me until I get up the gumption to frog it and either start over or abandon the project altogether. I normally don’t let something like that whip me but twice I attempted it and failed.

Something that made my week though was that I was the lucky winner who won the give away at River Bend Farm blog! It was in the mail when I got to work this morning. So  my week started off with a smile. I can’t wait to use this pan and I have a lot of recipes to go in the recipe book(although I don’t do a lot of cooking anymore in my singledom).  The pan will be my banana bread pan and all things sweet. :o) The hand towel reminds me of Halloween, which is just around the corner. And you don’t find many paper bags anymore. I guess we are saving trees by not making them. Maybe one day I can visit the store where this came from, Texas Hill Country Furniture & Mercantile. I love anything wood. I see a picture of a wooden mesquite bathtub…I’d love to have that! I could definitely spend some money in this place.  Thank you Berte, I love everything!!

I have managed to work on some little stuff to ease my discontent after the bolster fiasco.

angels hat

This is the hat that accompanied the piggy. I thought I made it for a child but apparently she had a small head and it fit. :o)

  smiley faces

This is the two smiley faces for the little pillow I was going to make for the empty end of the bolster.  I think I will still put these together and stuff it. I threw them to the side with the bolster.

leo and pink hat

When I am in a funk I revert to hats. They are mindless, quick, easy and I can’t mess them up. They sooth me. So does my boy. He’s giving me heck here. Can you tell by the expression on his face? :o) Quit taking pictures mama and pay attention to ME!

vickie birthday

And this is a birthday present for a friend. It’s not much but it’s from the heart, made with my hands with love. It’s also made out of Lion Brand Cotton. Has anyone used this cotton? I liked it on FB and they had a pop up sale on it. OMG…..the balls are huge and I love them! The gauge is somewhere between Peaches and Creme, and Village Yarn offered on the Herrschner’s site, which is a thinner cotton than all of the others. I ordered these two colors and a purple. I really, really like them. I can’t wait to make a hat out of them.

So this is what I’ve been up to besides work, work, work. I’m ready for a slow down and some cooler temps. It sure has been hot here in GA. Although I really can’t complain because the midwest has been hotter than we have. We’ve been having a lot of storms. It’s that afternoon heat of the day thing. And I can’t complain about that either really because at least we are getting some rain. Others are not.

I hope where ever you are that life is treating you kindly. Cya soon!

  1. Sorry about the bolster pillow not working out. I hate when that happens to me. Congrats on your giveaway win. Those smiley faces would look cute put together as a purse for a little girl. Leo's a cutie - give him a hug for me. :)

    1. Thanks Debi! I may just do that with the smiley's instead of making a small pillow. Thanks for the idea! What would I do without my bloggy friends? :o)

  2. Yay! You won a giveaway! I haven't won in a long time now, but it's so fun. Looks like you got some good stuff. Your crochet luck will turn around soon. We all have those days/weeks. Ready for some cooler weather? Day-um, it's HOT!

    1. Yes Maam' it is HOT! I am definitely ready for cooler weather. I fear though that as hot as it's been, and since last winter was very mild, that this winter is going to be a doozy. I wouldn't be surprised if we get snow. Wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit to get snowed in and not be able to go to work. lol.

    1. It's a very pretty bread pan 'specially in person! I don't do a lot of cooking, being single and all, but I do bake around the holidays. Banana bread will probably be the most prevalent for that pan.

  4. First, go and give my pal Leo and super big hug for me. He's so gosh darn cute! :)

Sorry about the pillow cover. Just let it sit for a while, don't worry about it, there are other things you can do in the mean time.

The hats are darling and your friends gift is pretty. I love the colors you use. I also love the Lion Brand cotton, it feels really nice when working with it.

Sending you and Leo hugs. This week everything will go ok. There, it's written down, it just have to be that way now! :)

    Blessings always my friend

  5. I know exactly what you mean with the project not working out, I hate it when that happens as I usually really want to make something and I get nowhere. I've actually tossed out some projects out of frustration. I'm trying now to just rip out and roll up the yarn and set aside for another day. Good thing is you always have your wonderful hats to fall back on. They always beautiful. I think grannie squares are becoming my fall back, becoming addicted to them. Congrats on your winning the giveaway, its a great one. Love the pan. Very cute smileys, what a great pillow they will make. Your little guy is so cute, such a love! Have a good week, blessings.

  8. Awesome work! I wish I could crochet! As for sewing zippers, I have sewn throughout my life and CAN'T STAND zipper! Good of you to keep trying!

I'm going to post your blog to my favorites. I thought it was on there, but I have a glitch with about five blogs I've been trying to get posted. I'm loving your links and your fun read! Keep it up. Don't get too frustrated, your work is beautiful!

  9. P.S. --- Kat, I was saying on my comment in my blog about crocheting...if you ever have time to post your crocheting with tips on how to do the edges, I'd love to see your technique. I've knitted and crocheted, but the ends are always ragged and unmatched, I can't figure out how to make it look uniform and clean lined. It always looks like an S.

Haha. I now have you on my blog of favorites so I can find you easier. Had to come back to tell you!

  10. You have my permission to complain even if other people have it worse. Hot is horrible. I feel dead in heat. The only thing good about it is I'm too morose to complain to anyone out of earshot. So, as my sister used to say, "you go ahead on."
