My Weekend & The Introduction to Madge

Good morning! I was so glad to hear that Irene was not as bad as what was feared. She could have been a whole lot worse. We did get a little bit of her but nothing compared to those north of here. Friday was actually a cooler day because of Irene. We had cloud cover all day and some rain but not much.

Saturday was clear and hot here. I was going to help work a stop for a poker run but ended up being left behind because I had a rear flat tire on my motorcycle. About 3 miles before the start of the run I noticed that my back end (bike) was feeling kind of squishy. I knew something was up. I stopped for a red light at I-95 and when I braked for the light my rear end fish tailed a little bit. I thought...oh no...not a flat tire.  Yep....when I took off from the light I knew exactly what it was. I still had another mile and a half to get to where the run started, a bike shop, and had to go slow because my back end was all over my lane. But wouldn't you know it...they had sold the last tire my size the day before. So they called around. Two shops had my tire so I went with the cheapest one. And the shop where I was at had no mechanic that day. My luck. So one of my BG sisters offered for her boyfriend to put it on if the shop didn't mind him using their facilities to put it on. They didn't so he was kind enough to help me out. It could have been worse, I could have wrecked, but when you've got as many miles as I do underneath you on a bike you know when something isn't right and do the best you can to get yourself to someplace close by to get help.  $185 later and the help of a great friend using part of their Saturday to help me out......I'm a lucky girl. The tire on my rear was in very good shape, except for the gash inside the tread. I had seen a piece of glass too late and hoped I didn't catch it in my tire. In that respect I was not lucky. It was gashed good enough that there was no fixing it for a spare. Doodoo happens.

So let me introduce you to Madge, Kylie's next best friend. :o) Crochet wise that is. I still have her face to finish and earrings and necklace but wanted to show her to you anyways. A couple of people have said they like her without a face. But I don't think a 7/8 year old can understand why a doll doesn't have a face. :o)  I also want to make her a few more pieces of clothing too. The patterns both said the doll would end up being 16 inches and I fell an inch short, not sure why or how that happened. I went according to pattern for her head, torso and legs. And I went with a different hair style than the other two patterns called for.  That was interesting. My left hand started cramping doing the curls so I had to stop for a while then go back to do the last two. Over all I'm pretty pleased with her. So without further ado..........meet Madge.

I think she's cute. And I hope her face turns out good. I fret over that. I'm not good with faces. They always end up looking mad. lol.

I so hope this week goes by quick. I'm ready for the 3 day weekend. I have lots of yard stuff to do this coming weekend so I hope it'll be cloudy so it won't be so hot out. Wow...lots of so's in the last two sentences. :o)

May your day and week be more than you hoped it would be with lots of love and laughs in abundance. Cya soon!

Kiddie Crochet

Well....we are holding down the fort here. The winds are pretty brisk and we've had several rain events today but I think that's all we'll get out of Irene. I took a video this morning on my phone and tried to upload it to youtube to post for you but that didn't work out real well. :o( It was a good one too. Showed how fast the clouds were whizzing by and I did a darn good job narating too. Oh well.

So on my hooks the last few nights, 7.5 hours to be exact, is below. I actually enjoyed it immensely, seeing them come together. Now the hard part of the doll is ahead of me. I did the easy stuff first. :o) I can't wait until she's done.
The two on top are the shirt and skirt, then the sweater and purse. The only thing I am missing is the button on the back of the skirt but that's small potatoes. And I embellished the sweater. I added the stripe and the pink trim in light raspberry. (Lighting as usual have diminished the true colors) I love the magenta and raspberry together. Wasn't sure what color to do the purse, went digging in my stash and came up with this variegated red/pink color. Pretty cool huh?

So that's it for me today folks. I'm hoping and praying that Irene doesn't hurt anyone and that she doesn't do too much damage. I imagine NYC is in panic mode currently. I feel for them...we in the south know what it's like to deal with hurricanes, unlike them. I think they said last night on the news about every 75 years or so??? First an earthquake, then a hurricane. Hate it for them.

Have as good a weekend as you can. Cya soon!

A Little Bit of Friday Humor

I had to share this with you. I've been having a not good morning and this put a smile on my face real quick.  I need to share with you what's been on my hooks the last few nights. :o) I'll be back. xoxo

Kiddies Hats

Happy Friday Eve!

I had these done a couple of days ago but was so busy re-writing that pattern that I figured I'd post them today if I had a chance. They're nothing special. Although I didn't realize that I had picked up the 'smell good' peaches and creme cotton. I kept smelling something that smelled good and wondered where it was coming from. Then I thought maybe my bag that they were in smelled good and got on them. Nope, it was the cotton itself. I picked up two colors that did smell good and one that had no smell. Oh well.

They are nothing fancy but the little girls that they are for should like them. They are made in their favorite colors. That's all that matters. The pink on the purple hat is different than the pink on the white and pink hat but they look the same.

Anyways, I now am working on 'resemblances' of Fashionista Farrah & Lovely Lucy. Kylie's birthday is coming up quick. Why do grandbabies have to grow up?? She will soon be 8. Seems like yesterday she was born.

Anyways.....Irene is coming up the coast. We are supposed to have some winds and maybe some rains from her as she passes by. I can do without the wind but if it just happened to rain that would be wonderful. :o)  Ya'll be safe. I hope those of us to the north of me batten down the hatches and take a little vacation away until she's gone. Cya soon!

Hump Day Happiness Ta Dah

Happy Wednesday! I've been working my fingers to the bone trying to get a pattern refined and written up to post. I'm excited because it's technically my first pattern. The inception of the pattern was this weekend when I bought some half pint wide mouth Ball jars for use as holders of a recipe that I found on FaveCrafts for homemade hand scrub.  I had to spruce up the jar right? :o)

So my Half Pint Cover was born. (It looks like Blogger is giving me a hard time this morning....if this pattern appears wonky please forgive.) The green and orange cover was the first one I made and to tell you the truth the first pattern for this is different than the pattern written below. The pink cover is the pattern below. I tried to consolidate it down to be easier to read and execute. (I had a hard time reading and following my own instructions)

It's kind of hard to get it up over the jar when you're done but if you get one side on and then slide your finger inside the finished cover and pull out a little bit you can get it to slide up on the jar. Enjoy!

You can use this pattern to make jar covers for your personal use, or sell jar covers but you may not sell this pattern.

I'm happy to be able to do this! I've used so many others' patterns for things to crochet and create. Now I can give back at least one pattern. :o) I don't think anyone that will receive these for gifts reads my blog so I am safe on that aspect. This gift will be cheap for me cost wise, will be useful to the recipient, and once the jar is empty it can be used for various storage ideas or to just sit pretty. It will also mean much more to them because I made it and made it with love.  That to me is the most important part. Isn't that what giving is all about? That it came from the heart and hands of the person giving it?

It seems that we may have dodged a bullet here in SE GA this weekend. Hurricane Irene will pass us by. I don't think NC and up the coast will be so lucky. I hope those in her path will endure her wrath and be safe. Have a great rest of the week and weekend if I don't get back to see you before then. Cya soon!

Quick Note

I will be back tomorrow with a pattern of my own doing! I'm so excited. I have spent the last two days going over it, writing it, making sure it's right, and making a second one according to my pattern (tested I guess you could say).

I've run out of time today but I will most definitely see you tomorrow!! :o) Be safe!

Flyers

Days.......flying soooo fast. Weeks......the summer is almost gone! Months......Christmas is right around the corner again. Less than 130 days.....128 to be exact.  I know you don't want to hear it but it's true.

Another flyer is my behind right off my body...lol. Hopefully.  I am using this contraption below to try to get my body in better shape. Specifically this works your legs; calves, knees, thighs, and butt......believe it or not.  I'm hoping to have nicer looking, sleeker, toner butt cheeks! I've only been doing it a little over a week now and have just yesterday and today gone around (the outside) the building I work in (a little over a quarter mile), barely. Each day I take it out two or three times and work it. In theory you are supposed to work out at least a half hour a day five days a week to stay fit....more to get in shape. I haven't been doing a minute a day in ages, months......ok....years....much less a half hour.  So any little bit I can do should help. I have to take baby steps....it's killing me but helping me at the same time. I can't stand all this weight I've put on. I am miserable. Not to mention that it's not helping my already broken back. So I am making strides to try to get some off.
Believe me, it's not as easy as it may look. And it also doesn't take very long before you are huffing and puffing and your knees are screaming at you. Also....notice no seat?? Once you stop making it go it doesn't take long to stop. So you have two choices, pump and go or walk it. :o) Either way you are getting exercise.

I am still working on several things and actually cleared my table up a little the other day trying to figure out what I need to do to get on the ball. Or behind the ball, or with the ball.......to get going crochet wise.

I'm still working on the two different thread projects. Here is a peak of both. Mind you, it's the same stitch with both threads and appropriate hooks per size of thread. (The lighting was bad...excuse the pics) They look totally different don't they? I think it's the size of the thread and also the fact that one is multicolored while the other is one color.

And here below is an example of crochet while you are on drugs. Pain drugs.......for my back. I got this nylon thread a while back and didn't quite know what I was going to do with it. A few weekends ago I pulled it out and thought I would just start a granny for maybe a rug or something of that nature. I just wanted to see how it crocheted up. Have you ever crocheted with nylon??  It's weird, to say the least. It is hard to keep tension on it. The thread catches on the top of the hook when you're trying to finish each stitch. It doesn't flow......so to speak.

I am using a C hook with this and I guess it's ok. A bit wonky actually.   But anyways...I got sidetracked. Can you see my screw up?? lol  Note to self: DO NOT crochet when you are on drugs. It will get you every time! It's bad though because at that point I actually thought to myself, wow, this is odd. And I just kept on going, as if it wasn't screwed up...I don't know.  I realized it earlier when I took a pic of it and looked at it close because it looks odd. That's when it dawned on me what I did. My back was killing me that day and I took one of those bad boys. This is the result.

The colors are crappy because the lighting is crappy.  The blue and purple are really vibrant colors. I'm not going to pull it apart. I'll use it somewhere in the house.......or use it in my car.  Imagine that.....crocheting something for myself, even though it's messed up!

So that's all that's going on with me folks....besides work, work, work.  I did get a request for a couple of hats for a couple of little people so I may do those and take a little break from this other stuff I am working on.  We are still needing some rain here. The mornings have been a tad cooler and the days haven't been AS brutal. Maybe a whisper of fall in the air?? Hopefully!! I'm ready.

Happy Friday Eve! My wish for you is that your days are rich with love and laughter and that life is easy for you. Cya soon!

Crochet in Another Language

I found another Polish site, through one that I just started following myself. I'm always interested in other's work, even if it is halfway around the world. I wish I was able to travel and go to places and visit women who crochet. I would love to learn more.

What prompted me to blog about this site is the vintage picture on her sidebar of 10 women crocheting. I love that picture, even though I have no clue who they are. I also tried to print out a copy of one of the patterns......they won't come out large enough to try to decipher the stitches. There are a couple that I would have liked to have, like the rug.

Have a look, if you care to and have the time, into a Polish woman's crochet world

I don't have anything to report on my crochet front today. I'm still working on the project I told you about last, with the #10 & #3 thread. Same project only one is done with #10 and the other is done with #3. I'm loving both of them and can't wait until they are done. These won't become UFO's. I'm determined. :o) Stay tuned.

Ok...I think that may be it for me today. Have a wonderful weekend! I see rain is in the forecast for part of Texas.......Pammy Sue you may not be under that green shaded part I saw this morning. I did my rain dance for you......maybe it wasn't good enough, or long enough?? :o)  Hope you're able to stay cool and enjoy the weekend. Cya soon!

Old Ripple Afghan Kit

The other day my ex-boss (her name is Dell) came in to work with this oldish looking box and handed it to me. I was like wow...what's this? I turned it over and there was a rectangular hole in the box top with different colored yarns and they also looked old. I opened it up and this is what I saw.  There is no date whatsoever on the instruction sheet anywhere or on the box. I have no clue how old it is.

The yarn is super thin. Dell said that her grandpa's wife's sister had it. Dell is a couple of years younger than I am, and I am in my middle 50's. She's cleaning out a large room that she's had packed full of stuff for years and found it.

The second one is a closer up, which doesn't help. But look at those colors. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. I'm wondering if I should try to use it to make the afghan in the instructions. It's just that one side of the page is all that was in it. Needlecraft Corporation of America is the name on the bottom. I've never heard of them myself. I did a google search on them and came up with 3 trademarks they carried but they are all dead: PollyBraid, Kenloft & S - circa 1977, 1980 & 1982 respectively.

On other crochet fronts I have started a project that I just may have a pattern for in the near future. I've discovered something that I can't find very many patterns for, and I'm a little confused as to why not but maybe I'm not looking in the right places. I googled it and it seems that not very many of these are in existence. So I'm tackling that right now in two different threads - #10 & #3. More to come! :o)

That's all I have today crochet wise. This weather has got to give soon. Poor Texas and surrounding scorched states!! I feel for ya'll. We have been having bad afternoon storms. I watched last night's come through. I sit right next to a window crocheting and happened to see something out of the corner of my eye and looked up and the trees were being swooshed around rather violently and I thought oh no....I wonder should I go to the middle of the house. It was a wonder one of them didn't break and come right in the house. I live surrounded by trees and there are two oaks that lean over my place. Granted they help on the cooling bill but since I moved here I have been worried about them snapping in a bad storm and falling. I dodged the bullet again last night. And also did not get any rain out of the storm!!! All around me got rain, but not me. What's up with that??? lol The night before we had tornado warnings.

Well ladies and gent, have a wonderful rest of the day and I hope your little piece of the world is calm and cool. Cya soon!

Bookmark Marathon

Happy Monday ya'll!  I hope you had a great weekend. I mowed my yard on Saturday because the grass was so high (what little bit of grass I have).  I've been hearing a lot of incidents of rattlesnakes and copperheads this year, and it's mostly due to the fact of it being so dry and they are looking for water. With high grass you cannot see snakes. I have been praying Leo wouldn't run into any. He can survive a copperhead bite but not a rattlesnake. So I thought I best get out there and get the grass mowed so at least I can see in the yard if one is lurking about. Although.....my friend had a rather large copperhead just inches away from her in the leaves and she said she could not see him until he moved. SCARY!! I hate snakes! Below is a pic of the road I live on.....can you see why there might be snakeys in my neck of the woods???

So after that I was ruined for the whole weekend! I thought since I was going to be stuck in the house I might as well crochet huh? (Like I need an excuse! ;o) ) I really wanted to get Gail's bookmarks done so I could get them to her. The first one I showed you on Friday went really quick. The second one seemed like it drug on and I was getting bored with it. The third one yesterday went really quick because I soooo wanted to be done with them!!

I have done the duck/chicken one before, the clown I have not, that's my own design/pattern with parts that are other's patterns, as I stated before. I'm not real happy with the mouth part but it's done. (Don't look too closely at it!) And I am totally mystified at something. When I switched to all red for the bottom of the bookmark I kept the same amount of stitches and the same hook and thread. The bottom of it grew! A quarter of an inch!! I measured it and I kept counting my stitches just to be sure I hadn't added one in  somewhere, somehow. The only thing I can think is that my tension eased up because I was no longer carrying the yellow with it.  It's hard to see because the bottom wants to curl, but trust me, it grew. Oh well.  I hope she likes them.

They're all doing the happy dance because I'm done! lol  They will be on their way to her today.

So that's all on the crochet front for me. I don't know what I will attempt to tackle when I get home today but rest assured....I have plenty!  Actually I need to sit down and make a list out of what I have done, what's in progress and what I need to start for Christmas.  I think I have most of it either started or done. Just need to make sure.  I hate to say it but it's really just right around the corner!  Time is flying so quick.

So here's hoping your Monday is wonderful and that the rest of the week will follow it's lead!! Cya soon!

Ta Da!

Happy Friday BloggyLand! What a week it's been here!
Apparently Emily got frogged going over Hispanola yesterday. So they said last night on the weather. So whether we will get any rain out of her or not is a mystery. Probably not.
Before I show my Ta Da....have you seen these yet?? Oh man......I love them! I just pull them out of the fridge and munch. I love cheese! Especially these three. Well...I really like sharp cheddar, but still.  I found this at the local IGA. Try them if you can find them, they're great!
So I finally finished the first bookmark for Gail. Ta Da!  I love it. And a big thank you to Debi Y for her suggestion of the bow tie. It took me a couple of tries but I finally got one that's ok. It covers the neck, which is what I needed.  So now I have two more to do. I started a clown hat for the second one last night. I'm using the hat pattern that comes from the clown I made Kylie for her birthday. And check out what I just found looking for the clown post - the other post with some of the other bookmarks I made.  That particular clown post wasn't the one I was looking for but I don't have time right now to go back further looking for the original post. The pattern I found on Ravelry and Enfys was who the pattern came from. Kylie's clown was made of yarn, I'm making this hat with #10 thread.  I got almost half of the hat done last night.
So gotta go now. :oI  Have a wonderful, safe, cool weekend! Cya soon!

Can You Believe It?

:o)  Two days in a row this week!  How did I manage that??? It's early and I had a rush of things first thing and got them done so I have a small break. I wanted to post the progress I made on the 1st bookmark for Gail. All I have left is the arms and I kind of don't like the neck. I was thinking last night of how I could make some kind of a collar but I may just do a scarf. I don't know...I'll have to think on it some more. (Edited to add: I think I might take Debi's suggestion for a bow tie! Thanks Debi!!)
Also I took a real quick pic of a tunisian piece that I started. It was bothering me bad for a long time that I wanted to make something tunisian. It's kind of frustrating though because the left side is real tight on the stitching, and the right side is loose. It's also aggravating because the bottom curls up on you, that's why I have one of my only pair of knitting needles on the bottom to kind of keep it straight. And I also noticed that the first 4 rows on the right side have decreases in them of 1 stitch, but then I evened out and stayed with the same amount of stitches. :o(  This is my third try at tunisian. The others were frogged.

Bev, of One Yarn or Another just finished a tunisian jacket that is simply gorgeous! I also saw a tunisian pattern somewhere in blogland recently and it was kind of mind boggling to me to read. But I guess it's like any other pattern, you have to take it step by step, line by line and read real carefully. Please excuse the blurry pic...I was trying to get it this morning before I walked out the door, so I was in a hurry.
The marker is supposed to be the middle of the piece but somehow I messed that up too. I wanted three colors (which you have to be careful to keep them straight - I know..I messed up between the peach and rose color) Edited to add: Upon closer inspection of my pic I see where I messed up the colors also between the shocking pink and rose! lol and I wanted the two outside to be equal with a smaller panel in the middle. I thought I counted right but apparently somehow I screwed up, and didn't realize it until I had a few rows on it. Can you see how I have more peach than shocking pink? It's not a lot of extra stitches, only one or two, but it's just enough that you can see it. Oh well. I'm thinking I will get it to a managable square for an afghan for later on down the road. I am not frogging this one. It will make for an interesting panel/piece. I was actually trying to use up some leftover yarn from other projects.

I told Bev yesterday in a comment that she is the Tunisian Queen! I applaud her loudly for her tunisian work. I don't think I can do a whole vest like she did. I know it has to be a warm garment too. The thickness of the tunisian stitch is like a double layer of thermal underwear. :o) I so wish I could have the patience and experience to make a coat out of this stitch. No way is that ever going to happen!

Well it's that time. Duty calls!  I'm hoping all of us who are suffering the summer swelter will get some respite. All eyes in the southeast are on Emily, the tropical storm in the Caribbean. Last night they were saying that it might just skirt our (GA) coast and head toward NC. I would at least like some rain out of you Emily!! No more, no less please. :o) (Like she's going to listen to me huh??? lol)  Cya soon!

Seems Like Tuesday Is The Day

Gee...I posted last Tuesday also. It's a tad slow for a minute or two. :o)

The heat is being relentless. Though we finally managed to get some rain but it went straight back to hot again. I think I've had about 5 inches (4 in one afternoon) at the house. Any little bit helps. :o) And now they're saying that tropical storm is heading this way. I hope where ever it goes that we only get the rain out of it, no bad winds or destruction.

I finished the gloves except for the embellishments and I'm trying to decide what color to go with on them, and also I'm going to change it from what the pattern calls for on the leaves. The flower might stay the same.
The pattern is very easy (at least for me). Although in looking at this pic why is one glove straight in the rows up and down and the other slanted??? Hmm.  I just noticed that. They are big on me so I will have to come down a hook or two on the next pair. I was also thinking about using #10 thread and keeping the same #4 hook and see what I come out with.

My sister texted me the other night and asked me what I was doing. I told her crocheting ^^^^ some gloves.  She asked if I would make her another book mark like I made her before because when she went to CA on business someone stole it!!  That sux. I asked her why she didn't ask me before...it's been about 6 months since she went to CA. She thought that just maybe it ended up in the bottom of her bag but she finally cleaned the bag out, after throwing it in the closet, and it wasn't there. She also asked me to make a couple that she could give as presents, so I said I would. The pic below was yesterday before I finished the hat on it. I couldn't get a pic of the finished hat because my phone was being charged. (My smart phone takes awesome pics...better than my camera did!)

Here's a bad shot of the one I made for her previously:

So I'm thinking that the difference between the old one and the new one shows how much better I am at faces. :o)  I like the Drops Design bookmarks. I can't wait until all three are done. I will probably do a chicken and bunny, or a frog. Haven't decided yet.

So that's what's going on with me hooky wise at the moment. I hope your Tuesday is everything you wanted when you started your day. Try to keep cool! Cya soon!
