Friday!!

Happy Friday! Thank you for your comments yesterday about how you hold your hook while crocheting.  How interesting for me to find out how we all do the same thing but differently.

Today I have to show you a few things. The first one is one that Mindy (In The Loop) reminded me about. Right before my ex mother-in-law passed away she gave me two cones of white cotton Peaches N Creme and her hook that was passed down to her from her mom. (This was when I taught myself to crochet in earnest) It's a Susan Bates 00. I have never seen a hook like this.  I was honored that she wanted me to have it and not any of her 3 girls. We had had a conversation about me learning to crochet and that's when she told me to take them, that she wouldn't be on this earth very much longer to use them. I never really used the hook either until I got home last night. I actually like how it works. I used it on Bernat baby yarn and some Lion Brand Fun yarn that's quite chunky for the hook. What I can't figure out is what the other hook on the other end is for? Is it for frogging? I'd be obliged if someone knows the answer. I've searched Susan Bates stuff and can't find any that have an end like that. I just took about 10 pics trying to get a good shot of the end. This was the best I could do.

I also decided to get a pic of the baby blanket I started. The rows go quick but I'm finding myself bored with it already. Good thing I started it now so I can have it done before the beginning of July.  The colors are not true because of the lighting as usual. It's much prettier in person.

And the last thing I wanted to show you was a little different hearts for the Warriors Walk soldiers that we adopted.  I've had this one done for awhile and started on number 2. I need to do 4 of them. I was thinking last night that the second one might be even different than this one. I have ideas floating around. :o) The other side of the white is blue and the red is doubled. I'm trying to come up with a 3D heart of red, white & blue. We'll see how it goes. I can see it in my mind but getting it from there to my fingers is another thing.

So that's what's going on in my little corner of the world at the moment. I have a different kind of project slated for this weekend. It's one that I was inspired by a gift from a friend a long while back. I hope it turns out good. If so I will let you know next week.

I hope your weekend (shortened as it will be by one hour) will be the best and all you dreamed it can be.

  1. I love Peaches & Creme cotton yarn. I have lots of it. I've even made a couple of blankets out of it, which is probably not recommended, but I don't care. I have no idea what the other end of your crochet hook is for...decoration?

  2. I've made baby/toddler sweaters out of Bernat Cotton yarn.

I have a "00" metal crochet hook that I think was my grandmothers I ave had it forever so I can't remember . but I LOVE the size of the hook and the stitches it makes. It is my favorite of all my hooks Maybe it is the "worn in" grip. I don't know.

The blanket is nice . I like the color combination.

Now, time to read the rest of the blogs and then get busy on my Heart Cocoon. It has to be finished before we get to Indiana

  3. That vintage crochet hook looks really interesting. I can't help you out with any additional information about it but look forward to seeing if someone else can because now it's got me curious!

  5. Huh! I'll be interested to find out if anyone knows anything about that hook!

I really like that blanket. The colors are so pretty and the yarn looks really soft. =D

  6. Is the other end of the hook for clipping the hook on a page of directions while you've got it put up? It looks like the end of a pen, doesn't it?

  7. The hook on the top makes that a "clipson" hook. It was used to hold your last stitch when you stopped crocheting for a while. Great find!

  8. I have 6 hooks just like this one. They each have a different color top to them. I also have two that have gray plastic tops with clips.

Here is the information on the back of the original package : The hooks are called Clipson crochet hook. The colored end was for identification of the different sizes. The clip was used as a stitch-saver clip
The back of the package says:
Dear Needleworker: Here is your Susan Bates Clipson crochet hook. Your Clipson crochet hook has the permanent stitch-saver clip. Slip the last loop of your work under the special clip to prevent those annoying dropped stitches and unraveling, Clipson marks your place when you set your work aside. And Clipson’s colorful knobs easily identify the size hook you are looking for. One more thing you Clipson has the famous “in-line” head {such an improvement over the old fashioned type of hook} to help you crochet smoother – faster—easier—and make your work much more beautiful. Enjoy crocheting with Clipson – Tell your friends about it so their crocheting can be a please too.

As a side note I am looking for a loving home for the hooks that I have.

    Enjoy Gwen
